CostumeDoes the costume fit in the horror genre you expect?

The responce for this question was very positive. They said the costume fitted well with the genre and portrayed their personality and character well. They said the dark black clothing and the white wask contrasted wlel on the killer, as it showed his dark. mysterious and dangerous character. Also they said that the costume of the antagonist Tony, was a typical casual style of a student, which meant it fit fot the conventions of a horror.

Does the costume create the meaning about the character?

We got mostly positive feedback for this question. They all rpelied yes, because for the iflm opening it showed the kilelr wearing dark clothes and his hood up, so it could hide his personality and show the "mystery" behind him. Also, they said that Tony's costume showed he is very young and is a student, because of his casual style.
Does the costume fit in with our target audience?

We got very positive feedback for this question. Everyone said yes, because the killer who wore a white mask, looked "freaky" and "scary", which meant it did fit in with their targets, because it would show them that this killer has no emotion or sympathy.

Mise en scene

Does the mise en scene fit in with the horror genre?

We got a positive feedback about the mise en scene. They said they like with the scene when Tony (the main character) is getting ready looking in the mirror and then you see the killer in the reflection they said the mise en scene showed everything in and had all the typical conventions. However also, the people said we could've shot more outside of the house.

Does the mise en scene create a meaning that it intended?

The feedback we recieved for this question was mixed, but mainly positive. Some said it was good and does show the intention of our opening, it introduces our main character Tony and shows the killer in the house who he isn't aware of. Also no one dies in the first bit, which left them wanitng to know what ould happen next to Tony. Some said, we could have showed more about Tony and the way we introduced him.

Does the mise en scene fit in with our target audience?

I got a lot of positives from the feedback questions. They liked the props we used like the knife the killer was holding. Tehy liked this because it showed the danger and threat the killer has amongst his victims. Also, they liked the shot of the way we used the mobile phone.

Diegesis

Did the diegesis fit in with the horror genre?

This question recieved the most positive feedback. The people we asked said the music fitted very well with the genre and the scenes we used, as it made them jump and created a suspense for them, which made them wait for something more scary to happen. This means it fitted very well with the conventions of a horror, because the music can make a scene much more scarier, as it builds up the suspense more and more as something is about to happen.

Did the diegesis create the meaning we intended?

We want to create in this film opening a sense of suspense and terror and the feedback we got showed that we achieved this. They said that the music we used in the scenes went well with each other and they also said  they liked how in the music it had a dramatic end to it to show that it was a cliffhanger which was in the last scene when the killer walks up towards the camera to show the end of the opening. Some people disagreed and said that the meaning we intended was different in our film opening.

Does the diegesis fit in with our target audience?

We got really good feedback from the people we asked questions. The thing that stood out for them is they said the music we used was a good typical convention of a horror film and will target our audience very well.


Editing

Does the editing fit in with the horror genre?

We got positive feedback from our questions. They said that liked that we used cut scenes and said it just right because they didn't want too less or too many they said we got the right amount. They also like our slow paced scenes because they said it built up tension very well in the opening. Some people disagreed and said we used too many cuts and not enough transitions and said it didn't follow the conventions of a horror genre as it didn't make them as scared as we would have intended.

Does the editing create the meaning we intended?

We got a positive feedback from this question. They said that all the effect and transitions we used in the opening, create a scary meaning. However some said, we could've used more transiions, as there were more cuts than transitions.

Does the editing fit in with our target audience?

Most people gave us positive feedback for this question. The people we asked said the editing fitted well with the audience, as the cuts, transitions and titles showed a horror and scary meanig to it, and all of it had one theme, there wasn't too many different transitions or titles. They said this all was the typical genre conventions for a horror and is what they would expect in a horror film.

Sound:

Where have you got your music from?
The music we have used for our film is from the website www.freeplaymusic.net. This website has royalty free music whic we are allowed to use, as music made by famous artists would be copyright as we don't have permission to use them.

Why could you not use copyright music?

Copyright law protects original works, such as websites, books, music, paintings, photos and video. This is why I am not allowed to use them as it does not belong to me, and if I used it, I will be going against the law.

Production Log - Editing

Editing

Are you on schedule?

Yes we are on schedule for the editing. We have enough time to put our clips in order, to crop certain parts and add our music. Also we can add fonts which will match our genre conventions.

How is it going?

The editing has gone well and we've made it look much better than expected, as we've changed hte order of where we first wanted certain clips. The music we've added also makes our film very affective along with the titles and transitions.

What are the difficulties?

The difficulties were that the time for our film opening has to be no more than just over two minutes, this meant we had to crop quite a few shots and shorten them so it can fit in the time allocated.

What programme are you using and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

The programme my partner and I have used is iMovie. This programmes has many advantages, as it is very fast and easy to use. You can do a lot of effective editiing on some of the shots, for example, you can do voice overs, use effective transitions and add more than one song on the timeline.

 

The disadvantages of iMovie is that the effects are limited, as it does not have as many effect you can use than other programmes like Windows Movie Maker. Also you cant move the titles around the screen, it has to be in one spot, it would've been better if we could move it on a different area of the screen.

Production Log - Filming

Filming:

How did it go?

Our filming went really well, however we had to re-shoot our film. The first time we filmed, we thought it was okay because it matched our planning with the stpryboard, script and the planning. However the acting in the film didn't meet the standards and made the film look less realistic. We reshot the film and changed the location and reduced the actors down to two characters from three, so it could be more understandable for the audience and and match our genre conventions. Our seocnd filming went much better than the first, as it looked much more realistic and much more improved. The acting and the shots we used were more affective.
Did you change anything from your planning?

We changed the whole storyline in our filming from the storyboard because we realised that the storyline wasn't scary enough and didn't really match the conventions of a horror, as it was more funny for the audience rather than scary. So we had to change the storyline, but not completely as we kept the similar kind of narrative.

What were the difficulties?

There were quite a lot of difficulties while we shot our film opening. Firstly, was the lighting for some of our scenes. It was very dark and there wasn't enough light to show the faces of the characters, so we had to wait another day so we can shoot just when it was a bit lighter. Secondly, one of the actors who filmed the first time couldn't attend to reshoot, therefore it affected our storyline which we had to change due to this.

Are you on schedule?

Yes we are on schedule as all the filming is done, however we still needed to editing, by shortening some shots, adding music and titles.
