Task 17 - Timeline Planning

This is a timeline of my film opening which is called 'The Wake' i have included all title sequences we are using at the start of the film opening. I have also said on the side what is going to happen in the film in order and i have said which bits we are using either diegetic or non-diegetic. This will help me with the film opening because it gives us a plan of what and how we are going to start our film opening and how we are going to end it.

Task 16 - Costumes

Costume

The killer for my movie, will wear a white mask similar to this picture.  The mask will make the murderer completely anonymous, so no one knows who he is. This will resemble his personality as a gruesome and heartless murderer. In my film opening, I will show that this murderer is after a boy, and to get to him he kills his friends and family, so who he is or why he is after him will be unknown to the victim, which is why this mask will be effective, because we don't know who the killer is.

The killer will wear a black, dark hood which he will use to hide himself. He will wear the hood over his mask, so it will be hard to recognize him at night, it would be difficult to see him.

The victim will be wearing casual clothing, and his style will reflect his personality, it may show that he is young and that he represents a young social group who are students, and are everyday teenage boys who enjoy playing football and watching movies on the weekend.

Task 15 - Location

This is the house where I will be shooting my film. It fits in well with the conventions of a horror, as our main character Tony will be in the house by himself, which is a typical convention as it shows the victim is alone.

This is the stairs leading up to the corridor upstairs where we will see X (the killer), who is in the house but Tony is not aware of this.

This is Tony's bedroom, where he will be most of the time getting ready or talking on the phone during the film opening.

I have chose to use a house as my location, as it shows meaning of the film, which is a young teenager who is by himself in the house and the killer iis after him. This fits in to the typical conventions you would expect in a horror.

Task 14 - Prop List

Knife

The villain will have to be dangerous, so he will have a weapon he uses which will reflect his vicious and dangerous personality. Also a a knife will be a threat amongst the victims,so the bigger the knife the more the threat. Here is an image of a kitchen knife, where you can see it is very sharp. Also a knife is a very popular prop for my genre, as my killer is a slasher who kills his victim by stabbing them.

Fake Blood

I will be using fake blood, as this important in a horror film, because it shows the etreme pain and suffering ofthe victim. It will signify and show that the victim has been hurt violently and the blood will resemble his pain and the danger of the knife which my killer will use.

Task 13 - Moodboard

Here is my moodboard. I have used many different pictures, words and quotes from different horror movies to describe my genre. This moodboard will help me have a better understanding of what the audience should expect in a horror film, and the ideas I can come up with for my own film.

Task 12 - Mind map synopsis

I have made a mind-map, so I could incldue all my ideas for my film opening. This mind-map shows the different things I have planned for my film opening. These ideas include costumes, props, the shots I will use, the diegesis and the location. All of these things are important for my film, because it shows important details of the characters and the story.

Task 9,10,11 - Preliminary Task

Task 10 - The Storyboard

Task 11

Here is my video for the preliminary task. In this short video, you can see that I used the three different cinematography techniques, the 180 degrees shot, match on action and a shot reverse shot.

Task 8 - Production Logo Company

This is the production company logo that I have come up with, called "Slasher Productions", which I will be sharing with my partner who I am working with for my film opening. I have used bloody effect for the writing, and used a face of a killer. I have used all these effects, so it suits my genre. What this production logo tell the audience about my company and films, is that they are mainly horror or thriller. The man represents a killer or a monster, and the blood and knife represent victims being hurt and attacked.

The job of my production company is to help produce the films and to do all the editing for the film and focus on my genre and make it suitable for my audience. My company would be an "independent" film company, because it is outsied of the "major" film studios. Major film studios are films which are mostly featured in Hollywood, and have big budgets. Major film examples ares like Paranormal Activity, sinsinster and Saw.

Major film companies mainly focus on the budgets and how many views, ratings and sales they could make.  Also the major film companies use A-List actors to help promote their film.  Below are examples of some major film production companies who mainly produce "horror" films.

Independent companies focus more on their audience and try to use their conventions to the best they can so their audience enjoys the film.

Task 7 - Audience Expectations

- What is the genre of the film you are creating?

The genre of the film I am creating is horror. I am working with my friend Luca and we are creating this film together. I decided to use this genre, because it is very popular amongst audiences and I also enjoy watching horror films. The generic convetions make horror films very exciting which could appeal to me or people similar to me.

- Who do you think the target audience for this genre is and why?

The target audience I think my film is targeted at is for people aged 15 and above. I have decided to choose this audience, because the purpose of horror films is to scare people, and show the different things which make it a horror, for example the violence, the blood and gore. Teenagers aged 15 and abov like enjoy watching horror films and like that "jumpy" feeling which horror films give.

- What Demographic do you feel would watch your film?

The demographic that I feel would watch my film are C1, C2, D and E. The people under these categories are people who have jobs, but they are not proffessional jobs, and these people could possibly have enough days off and could go to their local cinema quite frequently to watch the latest movies.

- What BBFC will your film fit into? What effect will this have on the audience?

The BBFC my film will fit into is for the 15 rated certicifate. Most horrors that are released these days are mostly for teenagers and also the storylines are mostly based on teenagers or students. My film will affect the audience, because a 15 film has a "teen" type of language, because of the slang and the swear words and lifestyle of the characters which the audience would be familiar with. My film will appeal to the audience, because the characters and the style will refelct the teenage life.

Task 6 - Nine Frame Analysis

Task 6

The film I have chosen to do my Nine Frame Analysis on is 'Se7en'
Se7en is a horror, which stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.

Frame 1: In frame 1 there is an empty book, what this could tell me about the film is, that maybe in the film the book is very important, and maybe the person is about to wirte mportant things in it, for example it could be plots and plans to murder. Also it looks very old and dark, which could suggest that this person is lonely and has a dark villanous side ot him.

Frame 2: In this frame, we can see an image of someone's hands, what this tells me is maybe it is the hands of a victim. There is two rays of light going over the image, which may be coming from a window, this shows that the room is very dark and hasd a quite atmosphere.

Frame 3: In this frame, is an extreme close up shot of someone's fingers, where the skin is being cut with a razor. What this could suggest to the audience, is that this mysterious man, is villanous and dangerous. The shot also suggest that this killer feels no pain or sympathy for himself or others. Also the razor is a very dangerous weapon, which may show us that this character has no fear of dangerous weapons.

Frame 4: This shot shows that the hands picking out a book from a stack of different books. This shot could be significant in the film, because it may show the importance of the books. The books could possibly have clues for the "mystery" or "secret", as the darkness and roughness of the books show they have been kept saf which could hold secrets or plans.

Frame 5: This shot shows the person's hands and that he/she is sticking a photo on the list. This could suggest many things for the film. It could show that this mysterious person is plotting something of a person, or maybe is writing a note of an event. This could be very important for later on in the film, because seeing this book and photo could tell us or reveal a story.

Frame 6: This is a high angle shot looking down at a sketch/drawing of a man's face. This shot is very significant and could suggest that this drawing is of an important character in the film or has a relation or link to the person drawing it. It is also very dark and the light is mainly focused on the image, once again this is done to maybe show the audience the importance of this sketch.

Frame 7: This shot is an extreme close up of the persons hands. I can see thst this persons hands are dirty and rough, with plasters round his fingertips. This extreme close up shot shows the significance of this persons hands, as it could suggest to us this persons character. Also this person is sticking something down in his book, what this tells us, is that maybe this person is recording something or making a book of some kind.

Frame 8: This shot is a follow up of shot 7 and is another close up, where we can see this person is carefully putting his sheets together in a book or note pad form. The director uses this shot to maybe show the importance of this book this person is creating.

Frame 9: This is an extreme close of the person cutting out the word "GOD". This is very important, because it tells us that this person is possibly religious and believes in Go or maybe he is doing a bad sin and wants to make a note of it that he is going against God's will.

Task 5 - Certificate Ratings

Certificate Ratings

For this task I have created a PowerPoint about certificate ratings. In this PowerPoint you will see information about different certificate ratings, what things are acceptable or not acceptable, for example like violence, drugs or nudity. This will help me for my film opening, because it will give me an idea of what certificate I will be using, and what things I'm allowed to use for my opening to make sure it is not too extreme, and is suitable for my audience.

Task 3 - Genre Conventions

Task 3: Word Cloud on Conventions of a Horror film

I have used various words in my world cloud to describe my genre. These words are very effective and will help me when it comes to planning my own film. I can use these words when I start plannign and creating my own 2 minute film.

Task 1 - Timeline of A Film Opening

Task 1 : Timeline of A Film Opening

I have chosen to look at the opening of 'Avengers Assemble' (2012) Directed By Joss Whedon

I watched the opening sequence of 'Avengers Assemble' and on a piece of paper recored all the titles that appeared in the 01:53 time, I wrote a total of 25 titles on my timeline. The director Joss Whedon, is mentioned more than twice and this reflects his importance in the film. I also noted that the camera does different shots, which shows the characters' costumes, whihc emphasises their powers and skills, for example, on the title "T18 Mark Ruffalo" it shows a broken pair of glasses, this reflects to his character, because when he transforms into the hulk he breaks and rips out of his clothes. I also wrote the titles of the companies that are behind the film to release it, which shows the reputation of the film.

Here is a sheet, showing all the titles I recorded of the opening sequence on a timeline.
